Haverhill bowlers hit the jackpot for charities

Bowlers hit the jackpot for two charities at an annual bowls event in Haverhill last month.

The Buster Moore Charity Day, hosted by Haverhill Bowls Club on August 16, raised £1,000 for charity, with half given to The Burton Centre - St Nicholas Hospice Care’s outreach centre in Haverhill – and half to East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

Organised by Steeple Bumpstead Bowls League, the event was a success with fine weather and food and drink served all day.

John Senior, Haverhill Bowls Club Secretary, said: “The league was very keen for the money to be used locally.”

Jordan Hughes, Hospice Community Fundraiser, was presented with a cheque for £500 by the league at the Burton Centre, in Camps Road.

He said: “We are so lucky to have the support of the group. Thank you so much to all who took part and donated money.

“We rely on the support of the community in order to continue to make living with dying better for people facing long-term and life-threatening illnesses. On behalf of everyone here at St Nicholas Hospice Care, thank you.”
