Haverhill Silver Band has achieved more contesting success with its highest ever placing in a national competition.
The band was competing on Sunday (March 19) in the Championship Section of the regional qualifiers for the National Brass Band Championships , which was held in Stevenage.
At the end of the contest the band was placed fourth out of a field of 12 bands following a polished performance of the contest’s set test-piece, ‘Pageantry’.
Although only the top two bands secure a place in the finals at London’s The Royal Albert Hall, the result does mean the band is now firmly established amongst the best in the country.
The brass band’s very proud conductor, and musical director, Mark Ager said: “This is a fantastic result and one that was fully deserved.
“To compete at this level and finish ahead of bands that fielded professional musicians demonstrates what a high standard Haverhill is performing at.”
The band’s next concert in Haverhill will be at the arts centre on Sunday, April 23 at 7.30.
