Founder of Haverhill business The Wright Buy wins national eBay award

A Haverhill business owner has been named Large Seller of the Year at this year’s eBay for Business Awards.

Andrew Wright, owner of kitchen appliance business The Wright Buy, in Piperell Way, was one of 11 eBay sellers recognised at the national event for their entrepreneurial success.

Award winners were joined by former Dragons Den star Jenny Campbell and special guest speakers at the Ham Yard Hotel in London, each of whom presented awards on the night and celebrated the success of the winners.

Andrew said: "I’m delighted to receive this award.

"It’s not all been plain sailing, but I’ve learnt huge amounts along the way since starting out with no money at the age of 21.

"eBay is where it all started, and the platform has been a huge driver of our growth.

"Despite the success of our company, I continue to see eBay as an important part of our business’ future, and I’m excited for what’s next for The Wright Buy.”

Andrew created The Wright Buy ten years ago, aged 21, while living at his parents, after successfully helping a friend to sell some refurbished kitchen items on eBay.

As the business grew, Andrew launched his own brand, Cookology, which has now grown to become one of the UK’s most popular online appliance businesses.

The company is expected to turnover £14 million this year.

The eBay for Business Awards is designed to recognise and celebrate the most inspiring sellers among eBay UK’s community of 300,000 small and medium-sized businesses.

Rob Hattrell, Vice President of eBay UK, commented: “Small businesses like The Wright Buy are at the heart of what we do, and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to celebrate the very best and brightest of those selling on our platform.

"Their success is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and it’s a privilege to hear each of their unique stories first-hand.

“From family businesses passed down through the generations, to those just beginning their journey, I’m truly proud of what each of this year’s winners has achieved.”

Serial entrepreneur and Dragon from BBC Dragon’s Den Jenny Campbell who compered the awards added: “I have no doubt that all eleven of tonight’s award winners will be the bright sparks of British business for years to come.

"Each and every eBay entrepreneur has shown bags of resilience, determination and creativity – the makings of a true gamechanger.

"Their future is certainly bright and I can’t wait to see how their businesses grow and what they’ll do next!”

The event follows a nationwide search for the best British businesses trading on the platform, with the shortlisted entries being presented to an expert panel of judges made up of eBay leadership and industry experts, as well as previous award winners.
