Haverhill Choral Society starts rehearsals on Monday (12) for its next major work, Carmina Burana, which is due to take place around Easter.

The choir meets at the drama studio at Samuel Ward Academy in Chalkstone Way from 7.30pm.

New members are welcomed - there are no formal auditions - and whilst a certain musical ability is necessary, the main requirement is enthusiasm and a keenness to enjoy singing.

The society enjoyed its annual post-Christmas dinner last Monday and apart from the two other concerts featuring lighter programmes members can enjoy social events during the year.

The Society’s Musical Director is Jane Wright who has devoted her career to music and has had a long association with Samuel Ward.

It is under her direction that the society has staged some very successful productions including a performance of Mozart’s Requiem which was performed at St. Edmundsbury Cathedral in association with the Sudbury Choral Society.
