THUMBS UP FOR TESCO
Plans for a Tesco to be built in Haverhill were found to be generally popular among the townsfolk.
The plans had been criticised heavily in the letters page of the Echo, but the paper went out and about on the streets to canvass opinion and found people they spoke to were all in favour.
The planning application was still being considered by the borough council.
MAST DISASTER GOES AHEAD DESPITE PUBLIC PROTEST
Campaigners against a mobile phone mast - branded a disaster for the town - close to their homes in Haverhill lost their fight to have it sited elsewhere.
MP Richard Spring called the decision by Hutchison 3G not to use an alternative site a ‘breach of trust and said he was ‘absolutely appalled’ work had started already on the Hazel Stub roundabout.
Protestors had been out on the streets of the town centre to make their feelings known and Mr Spring had held a meeting with a representative of Hutchison 3G, who had said they would look into an alternative site suggested for the mast.
