Haverhill Echo ten years ago

Echo, March 18, 2004

Eight youngsters donned their hard hats to view progress on a new £600,000 play centre in Haverhill.

The pupils from Place Farm Primary School and Cartwheels Playcentre met builders working on the new Cartwheels Children’s Centre in Greenfields Way.

Work started just before Christmas and was due to be completed in May.

Haverhill town councillor Mick Graham said he would legally challenge any call for councillors to resign if they refused to take on trusteeship of Haverhill Arts Centre.

Haverhill Representative Alliance (HRA) member Cllr Graham said there was nothing in law stating councillors had to resign if they chose not to become trustees when the planned transfer of the arts centre took place the following month.

Suffolk Association of Local Councils said, however, that if the resolution became council policy individual members would then be bound by the majority democratic decision.

The only alternative for councillors would be to resign if they felt they could not accept the decision.
