Haverhill face must win encounter with Hertford

Haverhill face Hertford tomorrow (Saturday, January 12) knowing a win could lift them two places clear of the East Women’s League Division Two SW relegation zone.

Last Saturday’s 3-2 (January 5) home defeat by fourth placed East London in their game in hand leaves Haverhill third from bottom, above the drop zone on goal difference but just a point below Stevenage above them.

That result was an improvement on the 4-0 thrashing they received in the capital, and captain Tina Bunch will be hoping to improve further following their recent upturn.

A win in the six pointer at home to Hertford – who they lost 1-0 at earlier in the campaign – would go some way to ensuring survival.

Her side will be without Kim Thomas for the game, but aside from her they will be at full strength.

“We’ve got a strong team and we were very unlucky when we played at Hertford to concede a sloppy goal, so we are galvinised to try and get some sort of – revenge is a strong word, but we deserve something from them in the head-to-head (record),” said the skipper.

“We would like some breathing space as their last game is against (rock bottom) Crostyx II, so we need to put space between us and we’d like to climb above Stevenage.

“It’s good that we’ve got an extra game under our belts to everyone else as we needed it, and hopefully it can play to our advantage.”
