Haverhill group joins Befriending Scheme’s anniversary ball

A Suffolk-based charity for adults with learning disabilities marked 25 years of service at its recent eighth annual ball.

The Befriending Scheme held its silver-and-purple themed anniversary Ball at Suffolk One College, Ipswich.

Over 100 people attended the occasion which featured a reception, a two-course meal, and a charity raffle and tombola.

The food was prepared, cooked and hosted by seven Suffolk One students who are studying hotel management.

Guests included group members from the Haverhill, Ipswich, Stowmarket and Sudbury areas, as well as staff, volunteers and trustees.

Shirley Moore, chief executive of The Befriending Scheme, thanked Daisy and her student team for giving up so much of their time.

She congratulated the students for organising such a great event and commended them on their professionalism, the range of skills that they displayed, and how they had helped a charity to build links with an important local organisation.

Shirley added: “I would also like to say a big thank you to my wonderful staff team for their contribution to making the Ball such a great occasion. It was just magical to see just how much our members and volunteers enjoyed themselves”.

Raffle items were donated by local businesses, helping the charity to raise £258.05. There was also live music by local band Infrared and a disco.
