Haverhill II 168-8 lost to Abberton 180-8 by 12 runs
Haverhill fell just two big shots short in their run chase against a strong looking Abberton.
After opening bowlers Richard Partridge and Joey Kettle conceded just 18 runs off the first ten overs Martyn Wilkins bowled Jon Ward (16) with the score at 35 in the 16th over.
David Schofield was then brilliantly run out by Liam Botten for 22.
Richard Moxon (24) took the attack to Haverhill before skying a catch to Sam Street off Wilkins (2-35).
Kettle (2-19) bowled Darren Davies (4) and at 35 overs Abberton were 89-5.
By the time Charles Shannon (1-33) removed Aaron Trussler (53) he and Matthew Sullivan (38) had added 75 and the visitors closed on 180-8.
Haerhill’s opening pair Partridge (13) and Sam Street scored 37 runs before Street was adjudged lbw to Sullivan in the 12th over.
Liam Savage (28) joined Partridge briefly before the later was caught at cover with the score on 40.
Will Bailey fell early and then Carl Bradford (7) went as the total reached 59-4 off 21 overs.
Scoring was proving difficult but Savage was joined by Botten (39) to increase the run rate before Savage holed out on the boundary with the score at 86 in the 27th over.
Skipper Greg Street (10) joined Botten and took the score to 109-6 before being stumped in the 32nd over.
Kettle (24 no) looked good as a tight finish looked on the cards but Botten fell with the score on 143 in the 41st over with 38 runs needed off four overs.
The home side fell 12 runs short as they finished on 168-8 after 45 overs.
