Haverhill Leisure Centre is set to host its second Sport Relief Mile in aid of Comic Relief and staff there are in training to enter their own team.

The Haverhill Mile will take place at the centre, run by Abbeycroft Leisure in partnership with St Edmundsbury Borough Council, at 11am on March 20. The event will start witha mass warm-up on the Plaza led by qualified instructors from the leisure centre.

Entrants can then run or walk one, three or six miles from the centre, along Ehringshausen Way and Manor Road, then along the town’s railway walk.

Nigel Snape, centre manager, said: “This is the second Sport Relief Mile that we have hosted here in Haverhill. The first was a very popular event and this year staff are going to practise what they preach and enter a team into the event.

“Staff will be in teams of two with one running three miles the other six miles. We are having a little internal competition here, and the team with the quickest combined time will be crowned the winners.”

Sport Relief helps people living tough lives, across the UK and in the world’s poorest communities.
