A Haverhill man pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly and to assaulting a constable in the execution of his duty.

Steven Dawkins, 24, of Abington Place, Haverhill, kicked PC Kirit Shah in the leg while being restrained after behaving in a disorderly way in Millfields Way.

PC Shah and another officer had been called to the scene on December 28, 2014, in response to reports that Dawkins was shouting and swearing having been drinking at his sister’s birthday party.

Magistrates at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates Court heard that Dawkins swore at the officers before being arrested. He struggled and one of his feet caught PC Shah.

Dawkins accepted he had been drinking and had acted abusively.

He was ordered to pay a total of £235, including £50 compensation for PC Shah.
