Haverhill police is hoping to encourage safer cycling during the winter nights by giving away sets of cycle lights.

People can visit Haverhill police’s Twitter page or look up the hashtag #BeBrightBeSeen and re-tweet their cycle-safety message before February 2 to be in with a chance of winning a free set of lights.

Officers will also be handing out lights to people out riding their bikes.

“We do give out tickets to anti-social riders,” said PCSO Mark Isaac. “But it’s not about that. It’s about keeping people safe on the roads.”

PCSO Sophie Mitchell said: “Especially at this time of year, when it’s dark when people go home from work, people need to be careful.”
