A Haverhill schoolgirl is taking the next step towards becoming a star of the catwalk after getting through to the semi finals of a national youth modelling competition.

Kayleigh Hounsell, 12, is currently studying at Samuel Ward High School. She recently secured a place in the semi finals of Miss Teen Great Britain, which will take place in October.

Kayleigh’s mum, Sarah-Jane Hounsell, said: “I’m just a bit proud, but then I am biased.”

As part of the next stage of the competition, Kayleigh will need to raise more money for charity than her competitors, as well as gaining more likes on Facebook.

“We were thinking of putting on some car boot sales,” said Sarah-Jane. “She wants do to raffles and a tombola or something, too.

“She’s wanted to be a model since she could talk. When the opportunity came up, and we were able to support her, we couldn’t pass it up.” Members of the public can support Kayleigh at www.facebook.com/MissTeenGreatBritain or on Twitter under @Model_KayleighH.
