Haverhill award winning amateur dramatic group and title winning brass band are uniting for the first time to put on a stage version of the hit film Brassed Off.

The Haverhill Silver Band and The Centre Stage Company will combine to stage the play at Haverhill Arts Centre from June 8 to 11. Brassed Off became a global hit when it was released in 1996 and, set against the back drop of the miners’ strikes, told the story of the Grimley Colliery band as it become British champions just as the mine is set for closure.

The play explores the impact of the pit closure on the coal miners and the members of the band and the way it affects their relationships and community, juxtaposed with the ambitions of the band.

Tickets are available at Haverhill Arts Centre on 01440 714140 or by visiting www.haverhillartscentre.co.uk.
