Works to replace the sports hall floor at Haverhill Leisure Centre have been agreed by St Edmundsbury Borough Council and will start in February.
Fron now the sports hall will remain partially open for classes and gymnastics but the centre is seeking an alternative venue for bookings which require the whole floor such as football. The Monday and Thursday circuits class size will be reduced but an additional class will run on Wednesday at 6pm.
Operations Director Simon Ginders-Coxshall said: “The sports hall floor has suffered wear and tear and St Edmundsbury Borough Council has agreed to carry out the work to replace the floor.
“Work will commence in February and will take approximately three weeks, a relatively short time, but we have taken the decision to close it from Christmas to bookings such as football which require the whole of the floor area until the new floor is in place.
“Many other activities will still be able to go ahead as the wear and tear is only in parts of the sports hall but we are seeking to relocate activities such as football for this time period.
“We apologise to those customers affected during this short time but we hope people will understand the need for us to ensure this work is carried out.”
