Haverhill town council met to discuss its draft budget for the year 2015-16 at a meeting on Tuesday (December 16).

Town Clerk, Colin Poole, said he was disappointed to see that the town’s tax base had not increased for the year, despite new developments such as the Research Park being built in the town.

This could mean the council receives less money than it had anticipated and, while it is unlikely to raise the council tax precept during 2015-16, it may have to in 2016-17.

The tax base is calculated by St Edmundsbury Borough Council. Mr Poole intends to pursue the matter with them to clarify whether their calculations are incorrect and whether Haverhill is due more support.
