Haverhill WI members and friends recently celebrated 100 years of the Women’s Institute organisation and 95 years of their regional group.
This year the Suffolk West Federation, of which the Haverhill branch is a part, also celebrates its 95th anniversary.
To commemorate the double celebration a special garden party was held recently at Castle Camps village hall (having been moved inside due to the bad weather) where members and their friends turned out in their ‘Sunday best’.
A magnificent double celebration cake, depicting both anniversaries, was baked for the occasion by the Haverhill WI secretary Marian Harding.
Together with a team of helpers, she also organised the rest of the afternoon, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Guests enjoyed a buffet that, said committee member Jacqueline Stewart, made tea at the Ritz a ‘non-runner’, while a raffle was also well supported.
Jacqueline added: “It was good to see everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves on this special afternoon.
“It may have been pouring with rain outside, but inside was a wonderful atmosphere.”
She added: “Hazel Best, our chairwoman, gave grateful thanks to all those who helped to make this day possible.”
