The head teacher of Westfield Primary Academy is retiring, having been working at the school since 1996.
Rosie Campbell had her fairwell assembly at the school on Friday, December 19. Teachers and staff surprised her with specially composed songs, dance routines and gifts.
“It’s just a wonderful school,” said Mrs Campbell. “The children are superb and the staff are all wonderful.
“I’m just the captain of the ship, they’re the crew. All I do is steer.
“I always say to the children, when they leave, ‘once a Westfield wonder, always a Westfield wonder.’”
Mrs Campbell, an avid musician, had to be kept in the dark about the pupils’ and teachers’ musical plans for the assembly which, coming almost straight after the school’s Christmas concert, had them rehearsing doubly hard.
Mrs Campbell leaves the school in the able hands of Nicky Tyler, who will be taking over as head teacher in the new year.
Miss Tyler has been assistant head at the school for two years.
She said: “I’m really looking forward to being the new head at Westfield. I can’t wait until January. Mrs Campbell has done a super, super job.”
Mrs Campbell has no immediate plans for her retirement other than to take a well-deserved rest.
