Suffolk County Council is seeking out local organisations in Haverhill that can help save a public sports pitch in the town from closure.

The council would like to hear from anyone who may have an interest in taking on the football/basketball court adjacent to the Burton Centre and ensuring it stays open for use.

In light of the current deteriorating condition of the surface of the court and the surrounding walls and fences, together with the lack of management options, a decision has been made to close it off from public use for health and safety reasons.

The county council has worked hard to engage with local organisations to allow the facility to remain open for use, however no feasible solution has yet been found.

While alternative options are being considered, the county council is urging any organisation with a viable proposal for how the facility could be brought back into use and managed to make contact with Clair Harvey on 01473 265304.
