Marking her final week as High Sheriff of Suffolk, Judith Shallow has spoken of her ‘pleasure and privilege’ to serve the county.
Mrs Shallow, of Felsham, on Wednesday handed over the title to organic farmer William Kendall, of Kelsale on the Suffolk coast.
The High Sheriff supports those involved in the adminsitration of justice and champions the work of charities, voluntary services and unsung community heroes. Mrs Shallow said she hopes she has raised the profile of the role in the west of the county.
“Sitting in the magistrates, county and crown courts with the JPs and judges has opened my eyes to the challenges facing society these days,” she said.
She also raised ‘a considerable amount of money’ for the High Sheriff’s Fund, the new Arts and Culture Fund and other charities.
Mrs Shallow added: “But the really great pleasure has been to meet the absolutely wonderful, dedicated and special people who run the charities and voluntary groups that really are the glue that sticks Suffolk society together.”
