A college’s annual summer concert took on special significance this year as its director of music approached his retirement.
Christopher Charlesworth stepped down from Linton Village College (LVC) yesterday (July 21) after almost 18 years.
He will, however, be returning to LVC next year to teach one day a week.
To mark Mr Charlesworth’s retirement, former students and members of the community were invited to take part in his final Summer Soirée, an annual midsummer musical extravaganza which took place on the college lawn last month.
The concert treated a large crowd to an eclectic selection of music by the college wind orchestra, jazz band, soloists, ensembles and choirs, with music ranging from Handel and Vaughan Williams to ‘Hotel California’ and a jazz interpretation of Dvorak’s New World Symphony.
The second half of the concert featured a selection of Last Night of the Proms musical favourites and ended with a spectacular fireworks display.
Before the Summer Soirée, Year 11 students held their annual GCSE art exhibition.
