Man, 42, charged in connection with assaults and theft in Haverhill is remanded in custody


A man from Haverhill arrested in connection with an assault in the town has been remanded in custody.

The incident took place at around 6.20pm on Monday, September 28 in Chalkstone Way, just past Coupals Close, where a 37-year-old man was attacked sustaining superficial cuts to the head.

David Butler, of Pipers Close, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to the incident.

He was also charged in connection with three other offences – one count of false imprisonment and one count of inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, in connection with an incident in Anglian Place, Haverhill on September 13, and a theft in dwelling occuring at a house in Bramble Way, Haverhill, on Saturday, September 12, where items of jewellery were stolen.

Butler appeared at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court on Thursday, October 1 and was remanded in custody to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, October 13.
