A man has been charged with deliberately starting a fire at a house in Haverhill.

Pawel Rozanksi, 38, has been charged with arson with intent/reckless as to whether life was endangered, assault by beating and threatening a person with a blade in a public place after an incident at a house in The Keep on Monday (9).

Rozanski, of The Keep, was remanded in custody by police and was due to appear before magistrates in Bury St Edmunds yesterday (Wednesday) to answer the three charges.

Police went to the property just after 6.30pm to reports that a man was behaving in a threatening manner.

At about 7.25pm they requested assistance from the Fire Service, who were asked to extinguish a blaze which had been started at the property.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in a first floor bedroom and had to employ six sets of breathing apparatus as they got it under control by 8.20pm.

They continued working inside the property until 10pm and returned to their base by 10.51pm.
