Man detained in Haverhill after three-hour police stand-off




A large number of police and at least six vehicles are currently in Western Avenue in Haverhill after a stand-off between officers and the man they had gone to arrest.

The road was cordoned off by police from its junction with Withersfield Road up to the Ash Grove turn.

A police support unit was also in attendance and a dog unit was at one point requested.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 11.26am. Police attended a property at Pleasant Close to carry out the arrest of a man.

"Police were attempting to negotiate with the man who had refused to leave the building."

The man was finally detained at about 3.30pm, the spokesman confirmed.
