Haverhill assault incident; roads reopened as police launch appeal after man injured in attack




A serious assault in Haverhill in the early hours of this morning has left a man in hospital with wounds to his head, neck and body.

Officers received a report shortly after 1.30am today that a man had been injured within the recreation ground, close to Clements Lane and Recreation Road.

The man – who is aged in his 30s – had sustained wounds to his head, neck and body and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for treatment where he currently remains in a stable condition.

A cordon had been put in place in Crowland Road and nearby roads while officers continue to carry out forensic work, along with CCTV and house-to-house enquiries, but it has now been lifted.

Officers believe that this was a targeted attack and as such there is no wider threat to the community.

Enquiries are ongoing and the public can expect to see reassurance patrols conducted in the area over the coming days.
