A Haverhill women’s group has unveiled a new mural at Haverhill Leisure Centre.

Wednesday for Women, a support group in Haverhill for mums, unveiled the mural which depicts different aspects of the group’s meetings at the Leiston Centre, which include exercise healthy eating, coffee, a crèche, toy library and supportive friendship.

Painted by members of the group and their children, it is hoped that the new mural in the Centre’s coffee shop will encourage other mums to join them.

The group was set up by Health Visitor Anne Boyd 19 years ago for mums with children under five. Anne’s idea for the group was to introduce young mums to one another.

The group now has 50 members and is now open to women who have children of all ages.

Jan Dearman, Joint Coordinator of Wednesday for Women, said: “When I joined the group 13 years ago after moving to Haverhill from London it was a lifesaver. Wednesdays for Women introduced me to new friends and gave me a place to go that had a crèche to have a couple of hours for myself.”
