National joy for Haverhill hairdressing student

Persuading her friend to change her hair from blonde to a very dark black and cover herself in silver body paint helped a hairdressing student win first prize in a national competition.

Winning a trophy for Fantasy (total look) proved that Claire Allen, 32, from Haverhill, had made the right decision in changing her career from working in accounts to hairdressing.

Claire, who is training at West Suffolk College, said: “I have always had a passion for hair and beauty and I wanted a career change. I am really enjoying it.”

The competition was run by the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists (AHT) in the Empress Ballroom at Winter Gardens in Blackpool.
