National recognition for Haverhill youth worker

A Youth Skills Manager from Haverhill has won a national award for her work to build links between business and education for young people in the town.

Karen Chapple’s work for ONE Haverhill was recognised at the Our Place 2015 Awards in London on Friday, March 20.

Karen was praised for her success in working with local businesses, the town’s academies and JobCentre Plus in Haverhill to create apprenticeship opportunities in the town.

In August ONE Haverhill announced that Karen has worked with local business to create 50 apprenticeship places in a year.

Karen said: “I am thrilled that my work has been recognised nationally by Our Place. I love my job and love helping and supporting young people fulfil their potential.

“I also have to praise the many businesses in Haverhill that have worked with me in creating new apprenticeships in the town for our young people.

“It is their willingness to work with me and to support our young people that has helped me make this project such a success.”

Sarah Howard, Chairman of ONE Haverhill, said: “Karen thoroughly deserves this award, she has taken our idea of a Youth Skills Manager and turned it into a very successful, trailblazing way of working that has now been recognised on a national level.

“Karen is the sort of person whose work we need to be celebrate and highlighted.”
