After 27 years in business, the owner of a well-known hair and beauty salon in Haverhill has changed not just its name but also her own role at the helm.

Sonia’s Hair & Beauty has been in Queen Street since 1998, having originally begun its life as one half of Perms and Posies (together with florist Fiona Pilcher) in Withersfield Road eight years earlier.

Now though, owner Sonia Humphrey has changed the salon’s name to Mirror Mirror, Hair n Tails, while also cutting back on her work responsibilities.

Due to health issues, Sonia is passing the day to day running of the business to her daughter Nadine and niece Alexa, both of whom have worked there since leaving school, though Nadine did have a spell working somewhere else before returning.

Sonia said: “The name change is because the girls are now involved. Now it’s a limited liability partnership.

“The two girls are here and If I decide I want to drop out I can.

“I’ve been here 27 years and now I now I feel it’s time to change things for the future. I need to cut down my hours and my responsibility a little bit.”

The services provided by the salon remained the same, said Sonia, although an uplift of the beauty rooms upstairs is planned for the new year.

Hair stylists Lisa, Nichola, Sam, Kelly, Alexa, Niki and Sonia, beauticians Nadine and Zoe and newcomer Avril, a reiki practitioner, make up the team at Mirror Mirror.
