A new social club for older men has lunched successfully at the Haven café in the Burton Centre and will now be opening its doors on the first Friday of each month at 10am.

The club is a partnership between Age UK Suffolk and the Haven Café and aims to help older men enjoy a social life, especially those who live alone.

Six older men joined Gavin Hodge, community involvement & liaison officer for Age UK Suffolk, at the first gathering and he hopes to welcome more as news of the club percolates through the town.

Gavin said: “The club will develop as its members wish – there may be talks, there may be occasional outings in partnership with St Nicholas Hospice.

“Time will tell what the members want the club to be. If they would just like to meet for a chat and to put the world to rights on market day, that’s fine by me.”
