Haverhill drama group's new musical hits the stage next month
The talented youth section of Haverhill's Centre Stage Company will be performing the smash hit musical, Our House next month.
The musical by the amateur drama group contains many of Madness's top hits and is directed by Megan Mayes, with her husband Lee the musical director - the duo performed the same roles on the company's musical of a few years ago, the Adams Family
The story follows Camden lad Joe Casey (played by Wez Ruthven) who, on the night of his 16th birthday, makes a decision that will change his life. Trying to impress Sarah (Amber Brewster and Gerardine Sacdalan), the girl of his dreams, Joe breaks into a building development overlooking his home on Casey Street.
But things take a turn for the worse as the police arrive.
Joe’s life splits into two; the Good Joe, who stays and gives himself up and Bad Joe, who flees and leaves Sarah to run from the police.
Our House follows the two paths that Joe’s life could take after that night; one means a criminal record and social exclusion, while the other will lose him the girl that he loves.
Through the music of Madness, writer Tim Firth explores the themes of love, family values, growing up, responsibility and dealing with losing the people that shape us.
Performances will be from October 16 to 20 at the Haverhill Arts Centre, starting at 7.30pm, with a 3pm matinee on the Saturday 20.
