Santa lands Haverhill on a brand new sleigh

Haverhill Lions Club gave a debut outing on Sunday to a new sleigh that has been built to order following a request from Santa.

Santa, along with his helpers, used it for the first on Sunday when he visited Tesco, in Haverhill, where he spent a large part of the day welcoming children on board.

He will next fly into Sturmer Nurseries & Garden Centre, in Sturmer, on Saturday.

For that day and the following one Santa will be in his grotto, as he will on the four weekends in December.

The grotto will be open from 9.30am to 3.30pm each Saturday and from 10.15am to 3.30pm each Sunday.

While there he will be welcoming local children who wish to see him.

Haverhill Lions Club, which runs the grotto in partnership with the nurseries and garden centre, is trialling a new online system for making bookings to see Santa this year.

Phil Cheesmur, from the Haverhill Lions, said: “Bookings can be made by logging on to www.santaclausinhaverhill.co.uk and selecting a single booking or multiple bookings with or without photographs, the dates and times can be selected.

“We would urge parents who want to bring their children to see Santa to use this new simple system.

“The elves will be working hard to prepare the grotto for Santa’s arrival at Sturmer Nurseries and Garden Centre.”

The monies raised by the grotto this year will go to Haverhill Gymnastics Club and other local charities.
