Fire crews remain at the scene of a thatch fire at a house in Great Thurlow this morning.

Units from Suffolk and Cambridgeshire were called to the incident in The Street, which broke out shortly after 8.30pm last night.

At its height, nine fire engines were at the scene. Two appliances are still reported to be at the scene, although the Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service live incident feed says a message suggesting the incident is now resolved has been received.

In a post on the service’s Facebook page, area commander Ian Bowell said: “Crews worked very hard to make a fire-break around the chimney, stopping the fire from spreading.

“Crews worked into the early hours ensuring the fire was out and removing the thatch from the roof. Thanks to all the crews who attended, a really excellent job.”
