Chalkstone Community Centre in Haverhill to be officially opened after upgrades

The long-awaited official opening of the extended and upgraded Chalkstone Community Centre in Haverhill will take place at 11am on Saturday, February 23.

The event will run from 10.30am to 1pm and be an opening fun day and will include a bouncy castle, cakes, refreshments, children’s activities and group demonstrations.

The centre, in Strasbourg Square, is now managed by the River of Life Community Church.

The church took over the centre from St Edmundsbury Council in May 2015 and had hoped to have the improvements completed by June 2018.

Work was delayed after the collapse of the building firm carrying out the work, but things got back on track with the help of various firms and individuals in town, partly aided by an appeal in the Echo for people to help to get the work completed.

The Mayor of Haverhill, Cllr Tony Brown, will cut the ribbon to declare it open at 11am.
