Plough Monday time in Balsham

The Ploughmen will be touring Balsham this Monday with the Cambridge Morris Men in a revival of an old custom which saw out of work ploughmen touting for alms in the winter.

These days the men will be entertaining villagers and calling on people who have invited themn for food and drink. Donations will benefit the PCC Community Room, May’s Avenue Community centre Kitchen and 1st Balsham Guides.

The Ploughmen and Morris Men will meet at 5.15pm at West Wickham Road near the entrance to Rosie Green, proceeding to Horseshoe Close for 6.30pm and on to West Wratting Road for 7pm, Trinity Close for 7.30pm and Woodhall Lane at 8pm. This will then be followed by a walk through Mays Avenue before the street collection down to Linton/Cambridge Road, returning back up to the High Street and stopping next to The Green and Memorial Shelter at 9.15pm hoping to arrive at The Black Bull for 10pm and The Bell for 10.30pm the last call of the night when the raffle will also be drawn.
