The bestof Haverhill continue their 2015 programme of events next week with a session on presentation skills.
Communications coach Jon Torrens will be the guest speaker at the meeting which takes place on Thursday, March 19 from 10am to 11.30am at Days Inn Hotel in Haverhill.
For many business owners the thought of standing up and presenting to a group of people or even doing the “60 second” pitch at networking events can be the cause of real anxiety.
It is estimated that as many as 75 per cent of people, including the fun loving Prince Harry, are affected by this fear, which in its severest form is known as glossophobia.
Symptoms can range from freezing in front of an audience, to clammy hands, increased heart rate, shaking body, dry mouth and a weakened voice.
The presentation by Jon Torrens will explore why people fear public speaking so much.
He will offer practical guidance on how we can address our fears to appear calm and confident and actually enjoy verbal communication.
Elaine Carr owner of thebestof Haverhill comments: “Most of the people I know really do not enjoy presenting to other people, it really does fill them with dread.
“Jon is a very experienced communications coach with a background in computer games design and stand-up comedy. He understands the key to successful communication and explains it all so simply that I am confident everyone who attends will take away so great tips to help them not only in making presentations but in networking and selling situations.
“I am looking forward to hearing him speak again.”
A group of second year business studies students from Cambridge Regional College will be at the event selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts in aid of thebestof Haverhill’s nominated charity for the year – REACH Community Projects.
The original glazed doughnuts will be available to purchase for £1.45 each or £8.95 per dozen with all profits being donated to the charity
