Radio 2 star to switch on Haverhill’s Christmas lights
LIGHTING UP: Radio 2 broadcaster Janey Lee Grace
Between 5.30pm and 8pm on Friday, December 4, the town centre will be open for late night shopping.
There will be charity stalls, street entertainment, children’s rides, refreshments, evening market and much more!
The town centre will be closed to traffic between 1pm and 11pm.
Janey Lee, a long-time member of Radio 2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon show, who this year is also playing the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella at the arts centre, will switch on the town’s brand new Christmas lights at 6.30pm in Market Square.
For the big switch on she will be wearing a beautiful dress that was made by the same person who designed Princess Diana`s wedding dress.
The Ugly Sisters may very well try to steal the limelight and extra entertainment will be in the form of a special show with songs from a very icy kingdom.
Later on Friday night, head down to the Recreation Ground at 8pm for the Grand Fireworks Display.
The skies will light up with a spectacular display fired to a special soundtrack including some of the big pop hits of 2015 for this highlight in the town’s calendar.
The Fireworks Display is free but buckets will be passed around the crowd for people to give a donation of their choosing.
The next day is Seasonal Saturday, when there will be a range of Christmassy entertainers and attractions in the town centre from 11am.
Haverhill Town Council arts and leisure manager, Nick Keeble, said: “The Christmas weekend is just the ticket for getting in the mood for all the fun and festivities ahead.
“Come and pick up a Winter in Haverhill brochure from the arts centre to see what other Christmassy stuff is going on in town.”
The following road closures will be in place on Friday, December 4:
High Street, closed from 1pm – 11pm; Queen Street, closed from 10am – 11pm; Swan Lane, closed from 1pm – 11pm; Peas Hill, closed from 1pm – 11pm; Camps Road, closed from 7pm – 9pm; Chauntry Road, closed from 7pm – 9pm; Mill Road, closed from 7pm – 9pm; Recreation Road, closed from 7pm – 9pm.
