A Suffolk Special Constabulary recruitment evening is being held on Monday (June 16) at The Cedars Hotel in Needham Road, Stowmarket starting at 7.30pm.

Suffolk Police Special Constables are volunteers who give up a few hours each month to support regular police officers across the county in the fight against crime.

They play an important role, supporting regular officers in a range of duties including patrols, dealing with crimes and offenders and pro-active work.

Volunteering can be flexible to fit in with your life – you’re welcome along on days, evenings, weekdays and weekends, whenever you’re free.

Specials come from a variety of backgrounds, and in order to join you should be aged 18 or over, be in good health and of good character, but beyond this you don’t need to be super-fit or have any special qualifications.

Some join Suffolk Special Constabulary as they want to get a taste of what police work is all about before applying to join full time.

Others find it’s a good way to gain new skills and boost job prospects, while some just want to give something back to their community or play a part in pro-actively tackling crime and anti-social behaviour.

Whatever your motivation, becoming a Special can be exciting, challenging and rewarding.

Anyone interested in finding out more about becoming a volunteer officer is welcome to come along, and the evening will give you the chance to find out about the job and what it entails.

If you intend to go along to this event, please confirm your attendance by e-mailing

If you are unable to make the evening, but would still like to find out more please visit the Suffolk Constabulary website at or call Mick Mann on 01473 613638 or email
