The trial of a priest accused of fraud by abuse of position will take place a month later than planned.

Ian Finn, 55, of Hopton Rise, Haverhill, has pleaded not guilty to an offence of fraud by abuse of position.

He is the rector of the Haverhill and Withersfield Benefice, rural dean of Clar and an honorary canon at St Edmundsbury Cathedral,

Finn is alleged to have committed the offences over a seven year period.

The charge relates to the alleged loss of £13,204 from fees paid for church services between June 1, 2007 and March 1, 2014 by false accounting.

His trial had been due to take place in early May at Ipswich Crown Court but yesterday following an application from the Crown Prosecution Service, Judge David Goodin agreed to move the trial date to June 1.

Finn is currently on unconditional bail until his next court appearance.
