Remember loved ones at special service in Haverhill

Thanksgiving services paying tribute to lost loved ones, organised by St Nicholas Hospice Care, are being held in Haverhill this festive season.

The annual Light up a Life service will take place at St Mary’s Church on Saturday, December 17 (3pm).

Anyone wanting to take part will be offered a candle to carry from the church, as well as have the name of their loved one read out by Hospice staff, volunteers and supporters.

Sharon Connell, St Nicholas Hospice Care’s chaplain and spiritual care co-ordinator, said: “The Light up a Life events offer people who are bereaved, their family and friends an opportunity to join together and remember those that they have lost.

“It is a chance to celebrate and give thanks for their lives. These services are something we would like the whole community to share in, whether they have been touched by the Hospice or not.”

There is no charge for those attending a Light up a Life service, but donations to the Hospice are welcome.

Kevin Clements, the Hospice’s fundraising and marketing director, said: “The Light up a Life events are a special part of our calendar as they allow people to pay their own tributes to loved ones who have passed away.

“We warmly invite families to take part in Light up a Life over the Christmas period to remember a name or simply light a candle.

“While we are always grateful for any donations, Light up a Life is more of a chance for people to come together to remember loved ones who are no longer with us.”

Reservations are not required at Light up a Life services, other than the ceremony at the main Hospice site, in Bury, on December 3, from 5pm, where space is limited.
