A High Court judge ruling has backed a local planning decision to allow Cambridge City Football Club’s new 3,000 capacity football stadium to be built in Sawston.

A judicial review of the planning decision to allow the new stadium, close to Dales Manor Business Park, was lodged in 2015.

Today the claim was dismissed on the basis that South Cambridgeshire District Council did not breach any common law duty to give reasons for granting the permission when it went against officer recommendation to refuse it.

The council initially approved the proposals for the green belt site in 2014 and the decision was also submitted to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, who was content to allow permission to be granted.

The stadium plans include a floodlit grass pitch, full sized training pitch and 500 parking spaces.

The development will take up roughly half of the land available and the Club proposes that the remaining land will be gifted to Sawston Parish Council for recreational community use.
