Haverhill shop opened by mobile phone and tablet repair specialists Mendmyi
A market leader in the repair of Apple and other mobile devices has opened its first shop in Haverhill – more than eight years after the company was first formed.
Mendmyi opened its new shop in Queen Street on Monday, in premises previously occupied by Queen Street Computers.
For a few years the company has focused on repairing Apple devices (in the last two years it has also been doing Samsung and Huawei products) posted to them by insurance companies.
The founder and managing director of the business, Haverhill man Riki Baker, said the time was right for the move.
“In the last five years we have gone down the insurance route so the majority of work has been mailed to us.
“Fast forward five years and the insurance side of things is absolutely fine. The Queen Street Computers guy said he wanted to move out of the shop so we took it over.”
Mendmyi has a workshop at Blois Meadow Business Centre, in Steeple Bumpstead, and a shop it shares with a computer repair company in Colchester.
Ricki employs 10 engineers and two administration staff and all of the engineers are either apprentices or have gone through an apprenticeship scheme.
The opening of the shop also means he is now looking for one full-time worker and another apprentice.
Any make of tablet or mobile phone can be fixed by Mendmyi, which will also refurbish devices and sell them on, and Riki said their standards were very high.
Riki said: “We know that the quality of the work that we do is higher than you will find elsewhere, other than the Apple Store, which is why the insurance companies work with us.
“They work with us because of the prices that we have and the work that we do, so we want to offer that to local people.”
The shop will be open until 8pm on Family Christmas Night tomorrow and it is running a free prize draw to win an iPhone X at the and of December. Tickets are available in the shop.
