Volunteers are being sought to help build Bury St Edmunds most iconic building in Lego form.

St Edmundsbury Cathedral is to be recreated in tiny coloured bricks as part of a project which is to begin on May 28.

The creation will be of national significance, as it will be only the fourth time one of the UK’s cathedrals has been interpreted in this way.

The project will provide an opportunity for volunteers to try their hand at becoming a model builder or get involved in welcoming the community to the Cathedral.

The Very Reverend Dr Frances Ward said: “We are passionate at St Edmunsdbury Cathedral about creating a high quality experience of volunteering for all ages.

“Our new Lego Cathedral gives volunteers a chance to get involved with a tremendous project which will give volunteers the opportunity to gain core skills and experience with a great buzz. Be assured of a real welcome if you think this might be for you.”

Volunteers can either be a Lego steward based at the Cathedral shop, welcoming visitors and taking donations for bricks, or a Lego builder informing people about the project and assisting visitors to place their bricks. To get involved email visits@stedscathedral.org or call 01284 748730.
