A multi-vehicle collision caused long delays on the A14 near Newmarket this morning, Friday May 6.

The crash took place on the westbound carriageway at the A1303 junction close to the A11 turn off.

A car and a motorcycle were involved in the collision and the motorcyclist, a man in his 20s, has been taken to hospital by ambulance.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said: “An ambulance crew, ambulance officer and East Anglian Air Ambulance were dispatched following a report that the patient was laying in the fast lane of the road. “They treated a man in his 20s who has a suspected broken arm and shoulder injury.

“He was taken by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for further treatment.

“His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.”

The westbound carriageway has now been reopened following a full closure from the A11 to the A142.

There were also delays eastbound as a result.

Delays were back past the A11 junction and Highways England are reported delays of 45 minutes.

Routes through Newmarket also experienced heavy traffic as a result with the A1304 and Fordham Road backed up to the A14.
