Uttlesford draft Local Plan takes another step forward

Uttlesford District Council’s portfolio holder for environmental services, Cllr Susan Barker, will be presenting the latest version of its draft Local Plan for endorsement by cabinet on Monday (March 31).

This version follows the last round of public consultation towards the end of 2013.

The plan supports the policies for housing and growth in the district and incorporates the additional sites proposed in that consultation.

It identifies sites around the district where new homes, employment and retail facilities, schools, recreational facilities and open space can be provided and the infrastructure to support that development.

Following the cabinet meeting on Monday and subject to full council’s approval on April 8, the plan will be subject to a pre-submission consultation in April and May in which members of the public will be able to review documents on the council’s website.

This final consultation is focused only on whether the plan meets the “four tests of soundness” as set out in national planning policy, which is whether it is positively prepared, justified, effective and consistent with national policy.

Following this pre-submission stage, the plan will be formally submitted later this year to the Planning Inspectorate.

Following the examination of the plan by a Planning Inspector in October 2014, it is expected to go to full council for formal adoption early in 2015.
