An inaugural 8.5m walk along a newly-signposted heritage trail between the castles of Clare and Castle Hedingham attracted 140 people on Saturday.

The walk project, undertaken jointly by Clare and Hedingham as part of the Magna Carta 800th Anniversary, has created a permanently marked route between the two castles.

Clare was the seat of Richard and Gilbert de Clare and Castle Hedingham of Robert de Vere, three of the 25 barons who acted as guarantors to King John’s sealing of Magna Carta and the walk celebrates the two communities’ connections with the historical event.
