A support group in Haverhill for mums with pre-school age children is to relaunch next week after a three month hiatus.

Wednesdays 4 Women has successfully been providing a meeting place for women with children aged under five since 1997, when it was set up by health visitor Anne Boyd.

It meets from 9.30am to 11.30am every Wednesday in term time at the Leiston Community Centre, in Leiston Way, off Greenfields Way and runs a free crèche for children aged from six months to five years.

Following the break, during which a new committee was formed and Fenella Simmons appointed as the new leader after the departure of Emily Delicate, the group is to reconvene at 9.30pm on Wednesday, January 15.

The re-launch of the group is good news for many mums, as Mrs Boyd explained.

She said: “There is a need for this. There are a lot of families moving into Haverhill with young children.

“It’s a good opportunity for mums to have time for themselves because often they will go to groups but often they don’t have time to talk and do things for themselves.

“There is the social side and the support and sometimes in the summer there are little outings.

“It’s the only group really where they can go and have something for them, the mums, and have exercise that’s affordable. They do have the health assessments and advice as well.”

The group is supported by Haverhill Town Council and Abbeycroft Leisure and features guest speakers, a Zumba class, art, self defence, women’s health, an exercise class and dance - plus more - at a cost of just £3 per family, which covers refreshments, for the mums and children, including fresh fruit.
