The outstanding work and commitment of a Haverhill teacher has been recognised.

James Bleach, a design and technology teacher at Samuel Ward Academy was presented with the Outstanding Teacher Award at the 16th Design and Technology Association Awards recently.

The award was handed over by Professor Mark Miodownik, a professor of Materials and Science at UCL and a regular presenter on BBC’s ‘Everyday Miracles’.

“D&T has been and continues to be my life,” said James.

“The materials and technology we use continually evolve but what remains constant is the enthusiasm of the students and their creativity.”

Richard Green MA, chief executive of the Design and Technology Association, said: “James is to be congratulated on his well-deserved award. He and other winners on the night are to be celebrated for their contributions to furthering teaching and learning in the subject of Design and Technology in the classroom, which can often be the catalyst for students wanting to be engineers and designers.”

The awards night saw presentation made under 8 categories and was held at The Institution of Engineering and Technology in London.
