Bad day at the office for Haverhill IIs
Kelvedon and Feering 83-4
beat Haverhill II 82
by six wickets
Greg Street admitted it was ‘a bad day at the office’ for his Haverhill II side after they were beaten by six wickets away at Kelvedon and Feering on Saturday.
With the wicket at Rye Mill Lane having been uncovered all week there was still plenty of moisture in it.
And with the damp outfield and prevailing overhead conditions it looked like winning the toss would be crucial.
Unfortunately for Street and Haverhill, the visitors lost the toss and were asked to bat.
With pitch conditions favouring the home side, Kelvedon took full advantage.
The hosts bowled and fielded extremely well and took some fine catches in the process, with Haverhill’s wickets falling on a regular basis.
Only Rob Dovaston (25) and Joe Woodley (37) made it to double figures, with the last wicket falling in the last over as Haverhill finished all out for 82 runs.
Kelvedon decided not to hang about, and despite Haverhill picking up four wickets to gain some valuable bonus points, the hosts reached the target in the 18th over with six wickets to spare.
Street said: “It was a bad day at the office for us and a game where winning the toss was vital.
“We didn’t bat great though and credit to Kelvedon for making full use of the conditions.”
