Haverhill Borough eased past a depleted Team Bury side with an impressive 5-0 victory at The New Croft on Saturday.
The home side got off to a quick start as Rory Bone’s spectacular overhead kick from a corner flew in off the bar in the eighth minute.
Borough’s lead could have increased just moments later as Ryan Swallow’s effort from distance was well saved by Bury goalkeeper Ben Mills, who then reacted quickly to deny Craig Pruden.
The visitors had a chance to equalise when Tommy Robinson was put through against Charlie Turner, but the Haverhill goalkeeper made an impressive save.
While Borough went in at half-time 1-0 up, they found themselves three goals to the good just five minutes after the interval.
Haverhill’s second goal came seconds after the restart, as the hosts broke immediately down the right before the ball fell to Scott Lodge, who emphatically smashed the ball into the top left corner.
The game was put beyond any doubt after Ben Bradley, on as a half-time substitute, curled the ball beyond Mills to make it 3-0.
Bury could have pulled one back with just under an hour gone, but Haverhill’s Cameron Watson and goalkeeper Turner combined to stop Jed Wigley from scoring.
From then on it was all Borough, who went 4-0 up after Ryan Swallow’s half volley flew into the bottom right corner.
Swallow scored again just two minutes later with a volley from the edge of the penalty area as Haverhill stretched their lead to 5-0.
The win moves Martin Westcott’s side up to ninth in the First Division table, with a trip to promotion-chasing Halstead Town on Boxing Day (11am) scheduled to be their final outing of 2015.
